Corona virus Symptoms, Causes and Prevention Guidelines - (COVID-19)

Coronavirus is a large group of viruses that can cause diseases such as the common cold and even acute severe respiratory syndrome (SARS) and the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS). China has recently had an outbreak of the disease, COVID-19. It has been confirmed that its root is a new virus named 2019 New Coronavirus (2019-nCoV).

What is new Coronavirus (COVID-19)?

Little is known about the new virus. Major public health organizations including the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are closely monitoring the development of the virus and publishing the latest information through their respective websites. The organizations also issued recommendations on how to prevent and treat diseases caused by the virus.

Symptoms of Novel Coronavirus

People with new coronavirus infection may show the following signs and symptoms within 2-14 days after exposure:
* heat or fever,
* cough,
* Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

The severity of symptoms of new coronavirus infections varies from person to person, some are mild, some are severe, and may even lead to death. The disease remains to be understood, but most of the severely ill patients are elderly or have other serious diseases. This situation is similar to that of severe patients with other respiratory diseases such as influenza.

When should contact a doctor

If you have symptoms of a new coronavirus infection and may have been exposed to the virus, contact your doctor immediately. Tell your doctor if you have recently traveled abroad. Before going to the clinic, call your doctor to tell you your symptoms, recent travel history, and possible exposure to the virus.

Cause of Coronavirus

The contagion or transmission of the new coronavirus has not yet been fully understood. The virus appears to be spreading among people in close contact, and may be spread through respiratory droplets released by people infected with the virus when they cough or sneeze.
Whether a normal person touches his or her mouth after touching a surface that has been touched by a virus-infected person will cause an infection is unknown.

Risk factor of coronavirus

The following factors may cause infection with the new coronavirus:
Recently traveled or lived in China Have had close contact with a new coronavirus patient, such as taking care of a person infected with the virus as a family member or health care provider Elderly people or people with other diseases, such as diabetes and heart disease, are at higher risk of becoming severely infected with the new coronavirus. However, much information on this virus remains to be explored further, and the CDC and WHO are still working on research.

Prevention from Coronavirus

Although no vaccine is currently available to prevent new coronavirus infections, we can reduce the risk of infection by taking appropriate steps. The WHO and CDC offer the following standard precautionary measures on how to avoid respiratory virus infections:
* Wash your hands often with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
* Cover your nose and mouth with your elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze.
* Avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose with dirty hands.
* Avoid close contact with any patient.
* Avoid sharing tableware, cups, bedding, and other household items with others during your illness.
* Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces.
* Avoid visiting workplaces, schools, and public places while you are ill.

WHO (World Health Organization) also provides the following recommendations:
* If you experience symptoms such as fever, cough and dyspnea, contact your doctor and tell you your recent travel history.
* Avoid eating raw or undercooked meat or animal offal.
* In areas where recent cases of new coronavirus have occurred, avoid contact with live animals and surfaces they may have contacted when visiting fresh markets.
