Repeated cycles of losing and regaining weight—often called yo-yo dieting—may have a lasting impact on muscle health, even when body weight eventually returns to its previous level. A recent study suggests that while body fat can come back after weight regain, lost muscle tissue may not fully recover.
Researchers from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) investigated how repeated weight fluctuations affect muscle mass over time.
